In einem Statement zur Single erklärt Feist, "Borrow Trouble" habe ein bisschen Ärger gestiftet, das kommende Album fertigzustellen. Eigentlich war nämlich eine eher reduzierte, akustische Version geplant. Wenn wir "Borrow Trouble" nun hören, hören wir aber hymnenhafte Klänge, mit üppiger Instrumentalisierung. Feist erklärt:

"It's a mess that holds its own logic. It's the convincing cacophony that thoughts can be. It saws away at you until your overwhelm pops an air supply in the form of another idea, a solution that starts with accepting there's no such thing as perfection." - Leslie Feist

Das neue Album von Feist: Multitudes

Die Kanadierin (Leslie) Feist hat uns zuletzt 2017 mit ihrem Album Pleasure begeistert, Mitte Februar hat sie dann einfach mal so drei neue Songs auf einmal veröffentlicht: "Hiding Out In The Open", "Love Who We Are Meant To" und "In Lightning". Die neuen Tracks zeichnen sich durch ihre rohen, reduzierten Klänge aus, der nicht bis in die kleinste Millisekunde durchproduziert ist.

Feist war während des Songwritings am Album mit enorm unterschiedlichen Emotionen beschäftigt. Einerseits ist ihr Vater verstorben, andererseits gebar sie ihr Kind. Diese Gefühle sollen Einfluss auf Multitudes gehabt haben. In der offiziellen Pressemitteilung zum neuen Material sagt Feist:

"The last few years were such a period of confrontation for me, and it feels like it was at least to some degree for everyone. We confronted ourselves as much as our relationships confronted us. It felt like our relational ecosystems were clearer than ever and so whatever was normally obscured — like a certain way of avoiding conflict or a certain way of talking around the subject — were all of a sudden thrust into the light. And in all that reassessment, the chance to find footing on healthier, more honest ground became possible, and the effort to maintain avoidance actually felt like it took more effort than just handing ourselves over to the truth." - Feist
